I received the Detoxifying Activated Charcoal ‘Cucumber and Bamboo’ body scrub by ScrubLove in my May Glossybox so I decided to find out more about the company and their products. I love body scrubs and exfoliators but I’m disappointed with most products. They often contain cosmetic micro-beads which are bad for the environment and not as effective as natural ingredients anyway.

ScrubLove is a UK based company; they make body scrubs using natural ingredients such as argan oil, Himalayan pink salt, coconut, sugar, etc. According to their website their products are free from artificial colours, fragrances, parabens and preservatives. As someone with very sensitive skin I was excited to say the least. Not to mention their products are not tested on animals. So far I’m a fan.

The activated charcoal scrub I received contains cucumber and bamboo and claims to absorb pollutants from your skin, tighten your pores and leave your skin glowing and nourished. You’re supposed to gently rub the scrub into the skin using circular motions, leave it on for a few minutes and then rinse it off. ScrubLove recommends to use this scrub 3-4 times a week.

The first thing I have to say is unfortunately a negative, but it is the only one and that is the smell. I really do not like how this scrub smells, I’m not sure if its the bamboo or something else but it just smells… unpleasant. I don’t even know how to describe it but it certainly doesn’t make me want to rub it on my skin. And the smell almost gets worse when you add water to rinse off.

However it works really well on the skin. It left my skin feeling so, so soft. I used it on my entire body, but the area I mostly struggle with is my legs as I get a lot of ingrown hair not matter what hair removal method I use and how often I exfoliate. So I used this scrub to exfoliate my legs and then shave and it worked beautifully! After one use it got rid of most of my ingrown hair but left my skin silky soft. Now, it does leave a greyish tint to my skin so I would recommend soaping after using it as water alone did not remove the greyish colour. The only issue for me is the smell so I hope that one or both of the other two Detoxifying Charcoal scrubs they have, one in Avocado and Aloe Vera and one in Prickly Pear will have a better scent but be just as great exfoliators. I also look forward to trying out their coffee body scrubs!

All in all I love this product I just wish it had a more pleasant scent! So I will use up the one I have and then try the others, wish me luck!

Have you ever tried this scrub or any other products from ScrubLove? Did you like them?
